Congressional approval rating hits all time low

Funny what that says for the intelligence of the people in this country.
They hate the congress that we have but aren't smart enough to elect new people to change things.

97.63% of all statistics are made up

however you have to love polls like this one........ of course all polls in general ( EVERY ONE) are skewed..... its all in how you ask the question

"do you approve of how congress is doing their job" 82% say no

"do you approve of your congressman <insert name here>" 56% say yes

"do you think congress is looking out for your interests" 82% say no

"do you think congressman <insert name here> was looking out for your interest when he brought that $50B pork project to your town" 82% say yes

<insert name here> gets elected again

Can we take George Washington's advice and just abolish the two party system already?

What would you want to replace the two party system with, if it were outlawed?

Any system can either flourish or become dysfunctional over time (some right away) depending on how focused the populace and its leaders are on the mission of that system.

The U.S. is not a homogeneous society, it's a mix, much more so than in its early days. The system was set up with an eye toward what was seen then as "tyranny" in the home countries of the first settlers. They tried to make sure that free thought would flow, religion (as long as it was some brand of the Christian religion, then), speech etc, and of course the right of the populace to rebel.

Elections now are so messed up in the U.S. that it has some of the worse elements of so-called 3rd world countries: there is uncertainty as to whether or not the people taking office were really elected by a majority of the people's votes.. and of course the ridiculous "electoral college" system now nearly guarantees fraud in the process. If any portion of the American election system should be outlawed it should be that.

The thing is the two party system has been around almost since the start. The names of the parties have changed, but it's almost always been two. Historically what happens when a third party comes around is either that third party gobbles up enough support that one of the two parties dies and then there's only two again or one of the two major parties embraces the main tenets the third party is running on and the third party then disappears.

The two parties pirates conspire to prevent / eliminate third party challenges.

October 2, 1988 press release from the League of Women Voters:

"The League of Women Voters is withdrawing sponsorship of the presidential debates...because the demands of the two campaign organizations would perpetrate a fraud on the American voter. It has become clear to us that the candidates' organizations aim to add debates to their list of campaign-trail charades devoid of substance, spontaneity and answers to tough questions. The League has no intention of becoming an accessory to the hoodwinking of the American public.

Maybe it's how we voters view leadership.

"Narcissists rise to the top. That's because other people think their qualities -- confidence, dominance, authority, and self-esteem -- make them good leaders. Is that true? "Our research shows that the opposite seems to be true,..."

"The study found that the narcissists' preoccupation with their own brilliance inhibits a crucial element of successful group decision-making and performance: the free and creative exchange of information and ideas."

Narcissists look like good leaders, but they aren't

Somebody look up when congressional approval ratings were at an all time high.

I'm guessing it was when they first established office back in the 1700s, and it's been down hill since.

That's (sort of) a joke. :D

Ironically, the highest approval rating recorded was when congress ceded their constitutionally mandated war power authority to Dubya in 2001. This makes the case that either polls are crap or that Americans are among the stupidest people on the planet.

That was when the majority of US was all "GO USA!" and riding on their emotions. Then they came to their senses later and down it goes.
