Root Connect 4G gaming?

My Connect right now is running Cyanogen Mod 10, and it's not up to snuff in gaming. I assumed that it would be a decent gaming machine with its specs. However, I experimented with Dead Trigger, and I got some ugly framerates. When I overclock the CPU and run it in performance mode, it runs a lot better, but not as great as I'd like it to. Plus, it obviously gets pretty hot after a period of time. I saw a post here about someone running it smoothly on stock firmware, so I have to ask: Is there a recommended ROM specifically for gaming, or is there something else I can do here? Any help will be appreciated! :)

I was playing GTA 3 on it, had things on medium to medium high for textures and stuff. With those settings GTA 3 ran fine for me on Number 2 rom, which is ZVA stock. I also didn't mess with any form of overclocking what so ever as well. Unfortunately you can no longer get GTA 3 from the play store for the Connect 4G. They had a recent update that they did that is no longer compatible with this phone. I am assuming though, that the issue was that Rockstar is no longer supporting Gingerbread. And that GTA 3 and any other game requires Ice Cream Sandwich and higher.

GTA 3 is probably the most demanding game that I have on the phone. The other games that I have are less intensive, they include Angry Birds, Enviro-Bear 2010, Fruit Ninja, Hazard Rush, Minecraft PE demo, Plague Inc, and Draw Something. The Minecraft PE demo which is probably second most taxing ran great on max settings
