Help Connect Note 4 to mac to access SD Card

I have a ton of pictures I want to clean up and transfer from my sd card and I have lost the adapter to connect it to my computer. I want to connect it via usb and access the sd card. The mac does not seem to see the note 4, and I tried android file transfer but it also does not see the phone. What am I doing wrong here?

Make sure you are using the USB that came with your Note 4 as others will not work. You may also want to try the Smart Switch app. from Samsung, http://www.samsung.com/us/smart-switch/, or the app. Airdroid. These can be used wirelessly. I've had pretty good luck with both.

Mine connects fine using a generic usb cable and android file transfer, just fyi
