Help Connect to home computer

I have a samsung facinate. I connect it to the computer at home which runs on xp... I get nothing in the way of it showing anything on the phone or on the computer that there is a connection. Someone told me there was something you had to download?? I have searched everywhere. This has been months and months and I would like to use my phone to its full potential. PLEASE help me

What you need to do is download (Kies) onto your computer: Samsung Fascinate? 4G (SGH-t959) - Samsung Fascinate? 4G (SGH-T959) - Smartphones - Mobile Phones | SAMSUNG

The link is a direct link to download Kies. There are others here that use a program called Odin which is very much like kies but I think Odin is more for moding a phone which I dont think it is what you are looking for I think what your looking for is Kies.
