Help connecting N7 to a Mac

I am connecting Nexus 7 with the USB cord it came with to a Mac, i have installed Android File transfer, a connected icon briefly comes onto the Android screen but then a error message comes on the Mac screen saying no Android device found ??? am i missing something ? thanks

Reinstall the file transfer software. I have a Mac also and I have no issues whatsoever when connecting my N7. First install the software. Next close the software. All I do is connect my N7 via USB and the software opens on my Mac showing the N7 file system. Add folders as needed. Disconnect and done. Should work without flaw.

Settings > Storage > "3 dots" > USB Computer Connection > Make sure MTP is selected.
