Help Connecting to an Apple Mac.

My Galaxy Tab 10.1 for some reason doesn't connect to my Apple iMac (running on Lion) either via Kies or via USB. I have noticed that when the Tab is connected to the iMac via the USB lead there is a small red cross on the battery symbol at the bottom right hand corner of the Tab.

Does this mean that the Tab isn't making any connection via the USB lead to the iMac and this is the reason? If so why?
