Help connecting via usb MS

I dont know if its my phone or just something I'm missing here. I had this working via some 3rd party software at one point but I forget what it was.

Currently on 5 systems ( all acting the same ) I install the r910 drivers and connect my phone. The phone acts as though its connected but ythe computer doses nothing. If I watch DM I see it refresh but no devices are added. I tried all common advice like reinstalling, rebooting, and other ports.

I also tried blue tooth but that allows only single file transfers.

I've had problems using rom manager's cwm but basically you just Boot into recovery,
Go to mounts and storage > mount usb storage and it's in mass storage mode
be sure to safely remove the drive from the desktop before unmounting

I have encountered this issue many times, on many different laptops, even ones that had worked the morning before. Turned out that my wife had inadvertently swapped my USB cable with her LG cable when we got back from vacation. It had the same connections, and still charged, but wouldnt allow the computers to recognize my phone, even after reinstalling the Samsung drivers repeatedly. Once I figured that out, and hooked the Samsung Data cable up, I had to leave it plugged into the computers USB, then restart the phone and the computer, before it would recognize it. I hope this helps in some way.

WHAT? that is absurd? Ok then I have a normal usb cable ( consisting of 5 wires internally LOL ). My guess is the Samsung puts some active electronics in there like a resister. I still dont know how they do it as I'm a usb engineer... but I have seen things in my day... I will have to buy a Samsung cable and see for my self.

I got one with my phone but bought 5 more so I have no idea what one was the original.

Yes the USB cables and the Data cables look the same externally, and like you said, I am really good with electronics and without tearing it apart for lack of an extra data cable, there IS something in there that is different. Do you not still have the data cable that came with your phone? It is really thick on the USB end, and has a samsung sticker on it. My wifes LG data cable looks almost identical, and works for her phone perfectly, just not for mine. Its very frustrating, lol.

Well as I said there is no telling where it is as I bought 5 more, but I just found a genuine OEM cable on ebay for 4 bucks. The ebay picture matches what you just said. Going to look around the house for this thing. Thx!

No problem my friend! I hope that you find it, or that the ebay one shows up soon, so that you can get back to us and let us know if that helped you! Please dont forget to report back to us, as this will also help others that may be experiencing the same issue!

Ha, I feel the same way, big pet-peeve of mine. Anyways, I found my cable, it was in the "baby found this on the floor and was playing with it" pile. The verdicts is yes, it now works.

I did a bit of poking around and it looks as though the client side USB MCU is in this cable. For what ever reason Samsung didn't want to put it in the phone.
