connection proble or invalid mmi code

I have galaxy trend with bsnl prepaid sim.I have 3g pack.Whenever I try to use the code *112# and then select option 2 for gprs it shows me the error Connection problem or Invalid MMI code

Hi, Has anyone found a solution for this matter, I've been searching the net for several days now to find a solution for this. I even inquired the service provider and they too don't know what to do. This happens only on android phone, I tried on a older nokia (basic phone) and worked fine, so its no network related issue. The problem has to be with the android system or the phone. I tried the comma at the end method and many other suggestions but nothing worked so far for me.
