Help Connection problem

Any idea why no picture will come on tv when trying to connect phone to tv via hdtv cable.

yeah tv switched on. Is Galaxy s4 trying to connect the adaptor to tv but keeps saying no signal. I do also have the charger and hdmi cable connected just not working
