Root Considering Rooting

Hey every one.

I am considering rooting my Nexus 10.

So im posting to get some input and get a few questions answered.

1. Why root my Nexus 10? What added features or functionality could I expect. I have my HTC Hero rooted year ago and Roms were great but its a different world now.

2. What Rom should I use? Why is better than stock? What bugs should I expect from that rom? Are there any drawbacks to this Rom?

3. Can you revert to stock should that be necessary? Such as warranty stuff? or I just don't like being rooted or running a custom rom/recovery.

4. Lastly, What is the quickest and easiest way to root the nexus 10. I have done it the old fasioned hard way in the past and learned a lot but, now a days I dont have time for that lol...

Thanks for the help!

Hi djbasik. I root because of all the great apps I like that require root like Titanium backup. I think rooting the Nexus 10 is almost essential if you want to save files to an sd card or flash drive. You need an OTG cable and have to be rooted so you can use Stickmount to do that.

I can't answer about roms. I'm a flashoholic with phones but felt I never really need one with my N10.

Rooting and returning to stock is pretty easy. Check out the Nexus 10 Toolkit. I liked it so much I got the donation version.

Thanks, Can you point me in the direction of the easiest, quickest tutorial. I made a tutorial a few years aog for the HTC Hero and depending on how good the ones for the N10 are I will write one a "Nexus 10 Root For Dummies" guide.

Hey djbasik. Sorry for the late reply.

If you look towards the bottom of the OP in that toolkit thread, there are a couple of howto videos I think will help a lot. Have fun! :)

I've been rooting all my devices since the OG Droid was released. I rooted this tablet the first day I got it. This weekend I saw your post and thought about why I rooted this tablet and realized that I really didn't have a need for it anymore. The only reason I found was theming because I really like white instead of blue everywhere but even that isn't important.

So I used Wugfresh to unroot. Running on stock for a couple days now and I'm liking it. Purchased Nexus Media Importer which works well for reading thumb drives. About the only thing I see that I cant do is write to the thumb drive. I feel that Android has matured to the point where I don't see the need to root. It seems I actually use it more instead of constantly trying to update Roms.

That's my two cents...

Same here - from the sweaty palmed moments of using unrevoked and s-offing my Desire (which definitely needed rooting to sort out the storage space) to the simplicity of typing a couple of fastboot commands on my GNex I've been rooting/flashing everything I've owned.

The N10 has stayed stock though. Maybe because I stumped up cash rather than got it free on contract or maybe because it just works and I still have a phone to tinker with. I've just never seen the need. If it ever crashes badly and needs a factory reset then I may just do it but until then there's really no need for me
