Considering the Droid Razr

Well I am getting tired of my old carrier so I am thinking its about time to get a new phone / carrier. I went in and talked to the local dealer since I get a discount from work if I go through them, and I found the Droid Razr.

Since every review I find online is about the Maxx version I though why not ask about it on here.

What is your honest opinion on it, I would get it for $150 on a 2 year contract.. is it worth that. Are there any known problems or bugs that one may encounter? Is it easy to break?

Any thing you may find as helpful advice I would appreciate.

Thank you.

I love my Razr. At the time I got it, the Maxx was still $300 and I couldn't really spend that much on a phone. Verizon's website has the Razr at $100 and the Maxx at $200 right now, which is fantastic. If you can afford it, the Maxx is the way to go, although you won't be disappointed with the Razr at all.

The way my discount program with my work works is I have to purchase the phone at the store then i get 50 off the phone and 10% off my monthly bill. The store has it priced at 200 and the maxx at 250... I'd get the Maxx no problem except with startup and all that noise, its costing 365 to get the Razr and the plan started add another 50 to that for the Maxx.. and yearly it will be a 672 difference.

But I am glad to hear you love yours, I am coming from a Motorola Triumph which is notorious for problems.
Do you / would you think the insurance is worth it, 129 for 2 years 84 for 1 year or 6 a month and for the one and 2 year if I see a new phone that I like better they will cut me a check for half the retail value of my phone to go towards the new one

Whats the battery like, the site proclaims it to be pretty good, but of course thats with the perfect settings. My current phone I leave charging all day while I am at work and its on 60% of the day at work, does keeping it plugged in affect the phones performance at all?

Thanks for you response

As far as insurance goes, it's personal preference. There are people who never buy insurance and there are people who always get it. I'm of the camp that always gets insurance.

Battery life is definitely a problem with the Razr. On Wi-Fi I have no trouble getting through an entire day, but 3G and 4G are much harder on battery life. If you're able to leave your phone on the charger on most days, then you shouldn't have any problems at all.

I just bought a Razr two days ago, coming from an original Incredible. I got it for $99 at the Verizon store and then got my $50 new every two upgrade credit. At that price, I couldn't justify an extra $100 for the Maxx. I keep it on WIFI at home and I am now on my second day with the same charge. I am using it as I used my Incredible, and the battery life seems to be the same so far. But, I have chargers at home, in the car, and in our rv, so I just plug in when needed. I do notice that the reception is way better with the Razr than with the Incredible.

I'm a light user of my phone, but it's always connected to 4G and bluetooth is always on (GPS is also always on, but only in use briefly each day as I check the weather) - basically I leave all the radios on that I think I might want to use during the day.
Typically it still has a 60%, or better, charge by the end of the day. (A 'day' for my phone is generally 5:30am to 9:30pm).

That said, I was working out of town last week and was in a location with a weak 4G signal, in mid afternoon the phone started complaining because it was below a 15% charge, with my actual usage being essentially the same. So for the remainder of the week I turned off the 4G radio so that it would hold a charge properly, and not kill itself trying to lock to an often nonexistent signal.
Once again proving that battery life is very much affected by location & signal strength, as much (sometime more) than how the phone is actually being used.

Thanks for the feed back on this topic, from the sounds of it the battery wasn't as bad as the sales person was trying to tell me. Odd thing that has been said here which makes sense to me is that this phones batter will go down faster on a weaker 4g signal vs Wifi, on my phone you can have no 3g signal and last all day vs having Wifi on when you are at home. This will be a nice change I am pretty sure I have made my mind. And will be going to get it ordered tomorrow to have it Monday

Again thank you all your information has been helpful to me.

Do yourself a favor and get the maxx, the battery is 3 times larger and this is a high end phone. I have a regular razr and the performance is awesome but runs through the battery like a old muscle car goes through gas. Lots of features to love and the screen rocks (plus it's pretty!)

I ended up purchasing the Razr today, debated whether or not to go maxx.. but didn't think I'd need it that much.. if it is as much a battery hog as my phone I have now, I'll just do what I do with my current phone, but from what I read this is not a problem.

I am glad a few of you mentioned that the phone was 99 online, I decided to go that rout, and it turns out.. the store I was at was trying to get some extra money from me according to the sales associate I talked with online today, and she was able to help me get my discount that the store told me I could only get there.. (another lie)
Because of this you saved me $260
So thank you all, I am really looking forward to this phone!

That battery isn't even twice the size. The maxx has 1.85 times the battery capacity of the normal razr.

Two reasons (of many) that I upgraded from my DX was that the Razr was thinner and lighter. The battery of the Maxx is nice, but it's almost as thick and heavy as the DX. I'll deal with the battery.

It's $0.01 at AmazonWireless for new lines only, which yours was. Contract renewals are $99, same as Verizon directly.

I guess I need to learn how to shop around.. haha, I think the main problem I had with not knowing something was how their employee discount program worked.. when really all you have to do is have your work email and submit it, and if the company you work for has any available discounts they will email you the details..

I was told in the store that I could only get it directly from that store only, then I went online and they told me as long as I worked with the online assistant I could get it, then the online assistant told me to call support.. support told me about the email and that I can go to ANY Verizon store and have it applied.. I wish I would have known this before my adventure started..
