Help Constant Notifications

Lurker
I have an older android phone. (LGMS659, Android version 4.1.2) I don't have any data, and can't send/receive group messages. If I get any, it displays as a box with a download button which doesn't do anything for me. I've gotten group messages before, and it's never been a problem; I'd just delete them and it'd be fine. But a couple days ago, I received several group messages. I deleted them all, and now the notification for one will not go away. When I tap the notification on the drop-down menu it takes me to a create mms screen, and I can't try to send anything because I don't have any data, so that way is out as a way to try to remove it.

It's not just that the notification won't go away, but my phone seems to be in a constant state of receiving said notification. Because of this, when I try to turn off my screen with the power button it immediately turns back on, and it won't time out either; It'll stay on forever because it thinks its constantly receiving a notification. If I clear the notification it just reappears immediately. Restarting my phone does nothing, nor does removing the battery for a reset. I have force stopped the app, which removes the notification until I receive a text from anyone, at which point the annoying notification comes right back.

The only solution I've found so far is to turn off all notifications for the messaging app, which isn't a good fix, because that makes my phone basically be on silent mode all the time, and not having my phone ever vibrate to let me know if I'm getting a message isn't working out.

If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it. This is really been getting on my nerves recently.

Go to settings, apps, and for the messaging app, clear cache and clear data. Reboot. If it still persists, uninstall the messaging app and re-install

Will that remove all my texts, clearing the data? If it does, I guess that's not too big a deal. I just hadn't done that yet, but it's probably all I can do.

Edit : Cleared the data, same problem; How can I reinstall the stock messaging app if I were to uninstall it?
