Help Constant Restarts

My Galaxy Tab 4 8.0, SM-T330NU has started doing lots of restarts. Last night I could not use it because every time I tapped an icon it would restart. This morning I tapped an icon , got a message that I needed to inserrt an SD Card, then it restarted again. After that it saw the SD card, but restarted a couple more times. It seems to be very unstable. I have a Best Buy replacement warranty, but am afraid when I get there it will behave for a few minutes & I will be sent away.

Is there anywhere that a record of restarts, crash files, or something like that is on the tablet? I feel it is on it's last leg and would like to be able to get a replacement before it completely dies.

Any help appreciated.

How old is your tab? Any chance you're maxing out on available RAM? Start by clearing cache and deleting unused apps, etc.

Done that already. Right now it started staying on and it shows 5.84G available. The SD card is 64G, and it has 56G available. I bought it last June.

I should also mention that in the last month or so I have had an occasional restart out of the blue. I have had a couple of instances where it is unresponsive and I have to power cycle it to make it usable again. I have also have a couple of incidents where it says the battery is almost dead, but as soon as I connect it to a charger it shows 80 -90% charged.

I am concerned because before that it has been stable, just seems like a lot of strange things are happening, but nothing I can duplicate.

The battery thing is probably just something funky with the stats. As soo as you charge it to full, it will clear the old stats and you should be okay. IF it's something that keeps happening, though, it might be a bad battery.

As for the reboots, it might be an indicator your SD card is going bad. Try running it for a few days without the card in it.

OK, I'll give that a shot over the weekend. Sad thing is I keep some reading apps on it, so may have to move some things around.

I think that's storage. Do you have an Active Apps widget in your apps drawer? That will show RAM usage. Your tablet comes w/1.5GB RAM, 16GB ROM.
Did you add any new app just prior to having problems?

Per the Task Manager I am using 291.97 M. BRunning apps are Facebook, Google+,Dropbox, Google App, and Gallery. It doesn't look like I have a lot going on. However, it has been stable so far today, but, it just froze on the Task Manager screen and is totally unresponsive. I will have to power cycle it to restart it.

Looking at Samsung support, their suggestion is a hard reset. I am going to have to give this some thought on next steps. Will probably move some apps off the SD card and try your suggestion on removing it first.

Thanks

We'll see what happens. Took everything off the SD card, unmounted, and removed it. I then restarted it to insure I had a clean start. The restart hung up on the Samsung splash screen. Powered it down and then it did 3 restarts before I could use it. Tried a couple apps and it restarted when I opened Zinio. I did find a bad magazine I could not open, so I deleted and downloaded it again. I can open it now.

I will run it like this for a few days. I'd hate to think that a corrupted Zinio magazine was causing all this!

Well, I am pretty sure this thing is bad unless the hard reset helps. It's been restarting all afternoon and usually does 2 or 3 restarts before it actually is usable. Twice when I couldn't even get it to turn on by holding the power button I connected the charger. One time it showed 0, then a few seconds later it showed 42% and 85% the other time, then it worked for a while. After a while it would restart a few times.

I did the hard restart erasing all data. It then did 3 restarts and died. I connected the charger and it showed 0%. I have it charging now so will be a while till I can see if it operates. I have no faith the hard restart fixed anything based on the multiple restarts, so am gearing up for a trip to the Geek Squad Saturday for an exchange. Almost thinking of throwing in a few more bucks and just get an iPad mini.

To AnciusD and Lunatic59, thanks for the guidance.

Good luck, please let us know what follows. Hate to see your tablet go bad so quickly. Maybe a new battery will fix it.

Thanks, it appeared to be acting better today, though I really didn't use it much. At about 6:00 this evening it started the multiple restarts again. It just all of a sudden restarted, worked for less than a minute, then 3 restarts and died again. I will try to get to the Geek Squad tomorrow, but unless it misbehaves in their presence, not sure what they can do. I never put the SD card back in so it is obviously something in the device itself.

The Geek Squad saw the same issues I did and sent it for repair. At the repair center all they did was a "factory reset". I've got it back, loaded apps, and it's been running good for 3 hours so far. Gonna watch it closely. One good thing - I brought it in Tuesday afternoon and had it back at noon on Friday. We'll see if it behaves.
