Consumer greed? (Controversial)

Satires

Android Expert
I've defended myself and others whom freely claim to use a lot of data. Just on the phone (My bionic) itself I was pulling down an average of 43 gigs a month. I had little reason to tether because of webtop that had a full Mozilla Firefox browser.

(Webtop is a feature of this and some other phones that when hooked to a HDTV, you get more of a desktop experience with Verizon's blessings. Meaning it there was no charge to use it.)

In my personal life, I am trying to embrace the concept of "No opinion." This means I wish not to judge others...

But something struck a nerve...

With Verizon offering unlimited tethering to grandfathered unlimited users for an extra 30 dollars a month, why in God's name would someone knowing this continue to tether with apps on the market?

I can understand doing a few things as long as it doesn't run past megs into gigs.

I know how it feels to have the finger pointed at me and called a data hog, which is why I feel a little guilty posting this thread. But I just needed to get this off my chest.

I'm guilty of things myself...

We all know Verizon isn't no saint. What do you think?

I understand one argument behind the tethering apps. Tethering is natively built in to android as of froyo if i remember correctly. You pay for unlimited data and perhaps at the time of which you signed your original contract, tethering was not excluded. So with Verizon closing out the native option, some people feel as if that right was taken from them. Personally, I use the native tethering through my phone because the custom roms generally remove Verizon's death grip on it. I am no where near a data hog since I have never used more than 8 gbs in a single month and am usually around 3.

I guarantee the contract most people are on excludes tethering without paying for it.

I myself am a data hog (A term I sometimes thinks carriers came up with to pit consumers against each other and social engineering) .

Just on my phone alone I can average 37 gigs a month. This month, since I got the tethering and uploading music to google play I will probably hit over a hundred gigs.

The rep I talked says he averages a 115 gigs!

Well, as much data a I eat, I figure an extra 30 bucks a month ain't going to kill me. Yes, I feel a bit guilty using that kind of data. And no, I don't do torrents and everything I do is legal. :)

This is a very good point! If Verizon doesn't want us to have unlimited then they can take it away. And deal with the fallout.

If other verizon customers want me to share the airwaves with them and not use a lot of data then they can share my FIOS bill. I'm paying Verizon $70 a month for wireless. I could probably just get away with just that for my home use but I also pay Verizon $60 a month for FIOS.

Maybe Verizon can create WIFI hot spots around cities and people can sign up to pay them another fee to use those as well.

Personally on my data specifically i usually only use about 150MB a month, with Wifi included though i use about 2GB, just because Google Music uploads were killing me haha.

But i mean as you now know i really don't use that much on my data plan, i know i loved my unlimited plan but i recently switched to a share everything just because i kept going over my minutes and i really don't need unlimited data when i don't use it like you guys :p

Hey mister, I see that tongue sticking out! lol

You should have spent 60 bucks with Skype. You get your own number and all that rides on your data. That's what I did. :)

I am assuming its VOIP then?

I was trying to do that, but when stuck in a 2 year deal with Verizon it's difficult to get around their services haha

The most I have ever used is 6GB/mo. ANd that was not tethering, but streaming radio. My Nexus has native tethering, don't even need an app. I use the tethering seldomly, so I don't worry about paying, but if I know I will be using it more than a couple minutes over the course of a day, for multiple days, I will sign up. Vacations especially when the hotel is not free (i.e. Disney). Its prorated, so $1 per day is a heck of a lot cheaper than hotel internet.
