Contact extensions

I'm sure I'm just missing something, but I cannot find a way to add an extension number to my contacts phone number on the Droid. My Treo used ",,,,", which doesn't work; my wife's Samsung uses "ppp", which isn't even an allowed input as the Droid is automatically in the "alt" input stage for numbers.

Please, tell me what I should have been able to figure out.

When I transitioned from my Storm Google added comas in my phone numbers with extensions. For example: 555-555-1234,,345. It dials and enters the extension correctly for me.
