Help Contact-Groups disappearing contacts

I have had my Samsung Captivate for about a week now. I love the phone and think it is a great phone. However, when I create groups in my contact list and then add members via the add member option or add them to a group when I create the contacts profile in my contact list, I have noticed that when I look in my contacts list and choose [GROUP] to view my groups I have noticed the number to the right that indicates the number of members in that group decline from lets say 13 to 3 and in some groups zero.

Is anybody else experiencing the same issue? I went to the ATT store and the store clerk told me that it could be my apps that access [SMS] and could be causing a conflict. When I came home I uninstalled all of the apps like Facebook, MySpace, and others that access SMS or my contact list. The only one that I could not uninstall was Google email. I received a message saying that I would have to reset my phone back to the factory default. I did not do that of course because I would have to manually input all of my contacts again.

I have uninstalled all of the games and apps that I've downloaded and this did not cure the issue.

Any suggestions?
 
It could be a synchronisation issue with Google.

Your contacts are synched back to the google server and it's possible that it's getting messed up. I've not noticed any issues using groups, but I tend to set the groups up using GMail on the web, and these are then synched back to the phone.

I'd have a look at GMail on the web to see if you can organise groups that way. (https://mail.google.com/)
 
I AM HAVING THE SAME ISSUE...QUITE IRRITATING. SEEMS ALWAYS SOMETHING,I'M ON MY 3RD WARRANTY PHONE FROM ATT AND IF {ACTUALLY WHEN} THIS ONE HAS MORE ISSUES I FINALLY GET A NEW PHONE...AND IT WON'T BE A CAPTIVATE FOR SURE. :mad:
 
In the beginning and for several weeks, I thought as was well with my contacts and their assignment into groups. Then suddenly most of the groups went empty. Now if I assign a contact to a group it appears in that group. Then when I assign a second contact to the group, the first contact may or may not disappear from the group. I finally got 3 contacts in one group and 15 minutes later the group was empty again.
Running stock 2.1 on Captivate. I am running very few other aps. Email is synced with Gmail and Calendar but not contacts. In display Options of Contacts, only Phone is turned on.
Whats going on????
 
I have found the source of the lost group contacts.
I turned off all syncing with Google(email and calendar) and most of my groups data still would disappear.

The Contacts/More/Settings/AT&T Address Book was set to "Auto Sync contact with online Address Book". When I turned it off, the problem disappeared. I have turned back on all Google syncing and still have no problem.

So it appears that the phone was syncing with AT&T Address Book and losing most of the groups information. If I assigned 15 contacts to a group, I could literally see them disappear within minutes while viewing that groups list. It had no affect on the main contacts list and I never lost any of my contacts.

My phone is a secondary phone on my wife's AT&T account and still trying to figure out how the address book works with the secondary account. I can see her address book on the AT&T site but not mine.
