Contact icon can't stay on screen

My phone is Nexus S and all of a sudden the Contact Icon has disappeared from the screen.
I've tried many times to slide it back from the Widgets but it doesn't stay on the screen.
Any ideas?

Not sure I'm understanding you exactly.

1. It may be that they changed the name from "contacts" to "people".
2. If you are trying to drag a widget that won't work. Widgets need to be long pressed in the widget tray and placed on screen, or long pressed on screen (depending on which launcher you use). If you are trying to get the App shortcut on screen make sure you are dragging the App icon from the App tray not the widget tray.
