Hi there - I've seen a similar post, but no resolution. I am hoping by now someone has figured something out because it seems to be a fairly common issue. Until a couple of days ago, I was using my original DINC2 from 8/11. Charging port went bad, so Verizon sent me a replacement (refurbished) DINC2. All seems fine, except the "home page" of my Message App does not show icons to the left of each text message as it did on my old phone; however, when I open up an individual text message, contact icons ARE there. I am using stock message app, linked to FB HTC Sense for contact photos. All contacts are saved in a Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync account (same as old phone). Contact photos show correctly in Voice Mail App as well as People App. Contacts are linked from the ActiveSync account to FB HTC Sense.
It's SO frustrating to open my messages and see grayed-out generic figures next to my text messages instead of the contact's picture...doesn't make it easy to find messages I need to quickly.
I've tried Handcent, and while other contact photos did work, my contact photo no longer worked (annoying too), and I have tried every suggestion I could find on the internet...all to no avail. Spent almost a day and a half on this...would greatly appreciate some insight on whether or not this is fixable! Thanks!!
