Hi
Now this is a question about contacts photos, those tiny little pictures assigned by the user to its contacts in the list. Does anybody know where are they stored inside the Android OS 2x or 3x?
I have a rooted HTC so I looked in some .apk files, like Contacts.apk, Phone.apk located in /system/app, but there are only default .png files and so on. I searched the database tables included in contacts2.db (file located in /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/databases/... all I was able to find is a PHOTO_ID column inside the contacts table.

Are your contact pictures being displayed due to other accounts being synced such as Facebook or Twitter? or did you yourself use your own image to be displayed as the contact picture? OR are you trying to find the image file of the little android guy that is displayed when you dont have a contact photo?

No, any sync is off, including between the phone and gmail account. In "Accounts & Sync" settings the "Background data" and "Auto sync" options are unchecked.
I know where the android guy is placed. The problem is I can't find the contact photo I assign manually. Example. I assign a picture, manually, from my Photo gallery, to a contact, having my internet connection closed. The picture is assigned to the contact after Android asks me to make a crop of it. Then I can see it in my contact list, I can see it when I call that person and so on. So the cropped image is stored somewhere but... where? Do you know the folder of contact photos? I googled it for hours and hours but no succes. I have no idea where can it be stored in my phone.

Any ideas guys?

I am not sure, but I thought that the phone linked the contacts to facebook and that was how you got the contact images unless, of course, you have set the contact pic yourslef...

What phone do you have? You have said HTC, but which one? It may be helpful for you to let us know, so someone can move this thread to the phone specific forum (as this may be different from phone to phone)

I have an HTC Legend with Cyanogen Mod, version 7.0.3-Legend.
Thanks

Have you got the Android SDK installed? You could always build a contact, add a pic with debugging and logging and see what Android does with it.

I followed the steps provided but I have no idea where those pics are saved. I did try to find them in /data/data/com.android.contacts and other places but I was unable to find them

On the SGS4G I have the ability to add a pic to a contact. The pic has to be a certain size, but I can use any resized jpg from the gallery. I don't use FB.
I did it this way on a Nokia, then on a Galaxy 3. I don't know if it's carrier specific.
