Help contact problem causing me to text wrong person!!!! help!

Help! When I first got this Droid Eris, I set up a phone number wrong for son #2. Don't know where I set it up, but it only messes up when my son texts me and I text back. When I text back, it goes to that old wrong phone number. I have deleted him from both Google and from the phone contacts. But when the text reply comes from someone else telling me I have the wrong number, I can hold down the message and it shows me the message details. There the window says something about SMS 555-555-1212 (the guy's phone number who is texting me back). I just don't get how I messed up my phone, I can text my son directly and it's fine, but when I reply to his messages, that wrong phone number gets my reply. How can I fix this??? I'm not sure that I know the answer to this question. One thing that you can try (if all of your contacts are google contacts that sync) is to try going into settings:applications:manage applications, find "contacts", tap it and tap the "clear storage" button. This will wipe out all contacts and settings in the people app, but they will resync with google after a few minutes.

If that doesn't fix it, unfortunately, the only thing that I can think of that will is a factory reset and start again from scratch. If you need to keep your SMS messages after a factory reset, there are a couple of apps in the market - SMS backup and restore and SMS backup+ - which can backup your messages before you reset and then restore after you reset.
