Help contact sync not working

Jtroth

Lurker
The sync for contacts stopped working about 2 weeks ago. I always sync manually, and I can sync Google Reader, Gmail and Calendar fine. But ever since 3/17 when I try to sync contacts the little circle goes for a couple of seconds, and then stops. It stays on the screen to the right of the "sync contacts" line, but doesn't turn any more. And nothing that I have added to my Gmail contacts shows up in my phone.

I have considered doing a factory reset and starting over - but I'm afraid I'll end up with no contacts whatsoever on my phone. Kind of like not having a smart phone at all you know?

Any suggestions? When I called HTC customer support they didn't have any.

I had the same problem but for over a year.

This is what I did to fix my problem.

1. go to people app. hit menu<view. Make sure your contacts are saved under google and NOT phone. It should say "google (###)" number of contacts in parenthesis.

2. After making sure numbers are saved under correct location. click menu<import/export.

3. export to SD card. Select google account. (we are backing up the numbers onto the SD card)

4. go back to home screen. hit menu<settings<applications<manage applications

5. click the "All" tab. Then look for "contact storage" and "contact sync adapter" in both apps clear the date and cache. (this will wipe out all of your phone numbers you have saved. Don't worry we already export the contacts to the SD card.

6. After numbers are cleared go back into the people app and click menu<import/export<import from SD card<google<import one vcard file<google_account-name

7. after phone numbers are imported. go to home screen. hit men<settings<accounts & sync<google<sync contacts

hope that helps. I just got mine done about 15 minutes ago and my contact hasn't sync'd since 2010. It's now updated to Oct 2011.
