Contact widget

Sorry if this is basic stuff but is there a way of having one of your contacts as a separate widget on the home screen so you can just press and it will dial their number?

Yes, it is the HTC People widget

I meant having a separate shortcut widget for one particular contact number within the numbers held in HTC People.

Yes just press and hold the home screen and then add shortcut, click Direct Dial, then select your contact. It only gives you a small icon though.
