Contact won't stay changed

Hi,

Please excuse me and point me somewhere else if this question has already been asked and answered! I could not find it...

I'm using a Samsung Note 3, and its native 'Contacts' application.

My own entry has a phone number associated with it that is out of date and no longer mine. I can't get rid of it!

I've deleted the old number multiple times and added up my new number.

The old one keeps coming back! VERY annoying. The new number sticks around, but the old one won't go away.

How do I permanently get rid of the old number?

Thanks so much!
Russ

What kind of contact is it? Google? Corporate? Phone-only? Facebook? (If you edit it, what is displayed at the very top?)

Still fighting this.

Where is information coming from that shows up on the "ME" entry in Android "Contacts" on a Samsung Note 3?

When I edit the entry it shows an icon of a mobile phone followed by "My local profile".

The entry contains an invalid phone number.

I delete the phone number, save the contact and then go back and view it and the invalid number is gone.

Thsn when I come back later the invalid number re-appears.

NOT AMUSED.

I've googled this in every way I can think of and cannot figure out how to fix it.

Where does that number get stored so it keeps coming back?

Is it in my Google+ account somewhere?

Where is it hiding? How do I drive a stake through it's heart??????

PLEASE HELP!!!!

I wish I knew the answer. I went into my "ME" entry and deleted a number. Rebooted the phone and the deleted number was still deleted. I added a different number and rebooted again and it stayed the way I put it. I know that doesn't make you feel any better, but... Just FYI.

Are you using any type of contact backup service other than google? Like Verizon's Backup app? If you are, you may want to try clearing cache then data on that app and see if that does anything.

I can't find any type of conflict resolution setting in Google contacts. If you know of one, you may want to check it.

Grasping at straws.

I did have backup Pro installed... cleared it's cache and then deleted the application.

Removed the bad phone number, saved and rebooted.

It's BAAAAACCCCCCKKKKKKKKK...

Still searching....

It seems to be some feature specific to Samsung or that particular model. I don't think Android has any such thing as a "My Local Profile" type contact. Seems like something that you would change SOMEWHERE the system settings of your phone. Could it be a Verizon account profile that you need to change by logging into your Verizon account online? Maybe Verizon keeps beaming it down to your phone.

If you create a contact in Gmail, does it show up on your phone as a "Google Contact"?

If you go to create a new contact, is there an option to create a "My Local Profile" contact?

Sorry, should have said earlier when Verizon was mentioned - I'm not on Verizon. This is an Irish Mobile from the Three network here in Dublin. The numbers are Irish.

But that could be a good hint! The old number was a different carrier and I moved the number to Three - but they issued a new number then the next day switched to my old one... so maybe that's where that number is coming from!

Oh - no option to CREATE a 'My local profile'. There is a ME entry in Contacts, and when I edit the ME entry it shows the Phone icon and "My local profile". So it's coming from the phone somewhere/somehow.

I'll check with Three.

Thanks for the hint, I'll post the result.

Oh - my options for contacts are:

Google Contact - icon is a white G on blue background
Device Contact - icon looks like a mobile
SIM Contact - icon looks like a SIM card
Samsung account - icon is a blue S on white circle on blue background

So it's coming from the 'device' somehow.
