Contacting LG support for a fix on outstanding issues

Android Enthusiast
Hello everyone.

I've sent an E-Mail to LG concerning our oustanding issues:

* Screen freeze on wakeup
* Nuance voice dialing adaptation
* FM radio
* Possibility of rolling back to Android 2.1

I suggest everyone who has a chance communicates with LG so they may be aware of the problems we've had with this phone.

Here is what I've sent them:

Hello,

An update for the LG Shine Plus (C710h) was recently released. We have a support forum on androidforums.com which includes a few dozen people troubleshooting this release, as there are some issues that cause the phone experience to be less than stellar. Here are the issues which have risen:

* Screen does not return from standby randomly. Forces the user to remove battery to restart phone.
* Bluetooth does not work after upgrade. A factory reset is necessary to resolve this issue. This is due to incompatible information in /data/misc/bluetoothd
* Impossible to use Nuance voice dialing's adaptation feature. The first phrase appears and then the application crashes. (Settings, Adaptation). No current workaround except using another application
* Impossible to rollback the phone to 2.1, as the baseband is updated during the upgrade
* FM radio doesn't work

The first issue related to the screen is the most bothersome one. Could someone contact me in regards to a possible fix?

Thank you for your time.

I'm not expecting much from LG, but we never know... We might get lucky.

I sent an email to LG two weeks ago. They sent email asking me to call them. But their phone support was useless. They told me that there was no 2.3.3 update and that my correct OS should be 2.1. I told them to look on their website but they said their info is that I should be on 2.1. They had no other help other than to say I had to deal with Telus and send the phone in for repair.

(Using a warranty refurb 2.1 phone to type this. No more blackscreens and if you give me a phone number, I can now voice dial it.)

1) Thanks for sending a list of fails with 2.3.3.

2) I reviewed someone's else solution with 2.3.3 but with a different manufacturer. His solution was to remove all icons from the screens and than put it back.

Results: I tried it and it didn't work.

3) I than toggled off all Wireless and Network settings. This works for me; no blank screens when I wake the phone up. When I need WIFI I turn it on and than off.
4) I put back the icons that I have removed and with #3. So far the wakes up and does not hang when:
Alarm goes off; Answering Skype Calls (not using WIFI).

Not a great solution; but a functional workaround for me.

Yeah, but someone had the issue with the wifi turned off... So I'm just wondering if LG can issue a fix for this. Because even with this workaround, it's possible that it might still happen.

My girlfriend's phone only had lockups in the morning while wifi is on though... So really hard to say. Let's hope putting a little pressure on LG might speed up things. Not sure Telus'll do much, but we could harrass them too! Although they'll just say to replace phone. ;)

another bug that happens to me since the update is my wifi gets locked up and can not be used unless i reboot my phone..

I actually liked this phone up until thew update.. I was fooled in to believing it would make the device better. but now there are nothing but problems and I HATE the phone..

I seriously doubt that LG will help with these issues because when I called them I got the same answers as everyone else ( what 2.3.3 update?? contact telus) makes me laugh to thing that a company like LG could be so incompetent..

but I have a great solution to this problem ( DO NOT BUY LG PHONES!!!!) spread the word about how shotty their devices are and warn everyone you know about buying them ( unless of course you really hate that person ) then by all mean point them towards the Lg models in the cell phone store..

so it goes without saying that I will never buy another LG Cell Phone and if you are thinking of getting one... then do so at your own risk

As much as I agree with the last comment, the reality is this: We own these phones right now. And most of us do not want to switch or cannot switch for whatever reason... So our best bet is to find workarounds and fixes on our own or attempt to get LG to do something.

I got a response back thanking me for my input on bugs with the ROM and that the E-Mail was forwarded to the technical department... Sadly, I think it'll die there unless we get more momentum behind this.

My friend has had no issues with the update, he said he never even got the screen freeze... All he got was the unstable wifi. But I'm thinking the issue lies with Wifi drivers (Even if they're disabled) cause the phone to not wake up properly when the phone is in deep sleep. And considering I don't have a phone to troubleshoot with, it makes it pretty hard because I don't have anyone who can help with testing...

Oh well! I'm about to call it quits. ;) I'll update my ROM, upload the theme I had made... Try offering a few fixes and solutions for wifi screen freeze issue and then I think I'll retire from the forum... I'm neglecting my current phone because of this forum. ;) haha

2 more years.... boy that new Samsung Galaxy II S X looks good.

The Galaxy S2 is an amazing phone... It's my current phone. The S2X is just a faster and bigger Galaxy S2 with full tactile buttons instead of the hard button that's on the S2. It's really the best upgrade you can get with Android. ;) Great dev team too!

not sure whether to get the Galaxy S2X or the HTC amaze I have to wait a couple more months I'm sure by then there will be enough good reviews to make my decision right now I'm leaning towards the Galaxy S2X because i hear the battery life is good

To be honest, it's all a question of Sense... Not as in Common Sense, but more the Sense interface. ;) HTC has an amazing UI system, but I grew bored with Sense really quickly. Samsung's Touchwiz UI is more customizable but looks more like an iphone to me... I LOVE little features from it though (Slide to call on contacts, brightness slider on notification bar, Glowing edge + smooth scrolling), but I use Go Launcher as a launcher, not the standard Samsung one (Which is deleted from my phone).

Same applies for Shine Plus, girlfriend is running Go Launcher...

Yeah, I don't think they want to promote the fact they released a botched update.

I sent them another message with our findings on the Wifi front. ;) Hopefully we'll get some help on this.

hopefully they can issue a fix but there is a chance it might be a while because the gingerbread update is still very new
