Help Contacts duplicating

Hi,

Just noticed there have been other threads on this topic but no luck.

I have a Nexus 5 which is synced to Microsoft Exchange for contacts, email & calender. The Gmail account only syncs app-data, and nothing else is used to sync.

The phone seems to keep duplicating my contacts randomly with no obvious cause. They then show up as duplicates in exchange once it syncs up from the phone. I've set the phone to only show exchange contacts.

I cleared all contacts from the phone and removed the duplicates in outlook - then re synced the phone which didn't work for long before duplicates started appearing again!

I have just switched from a Nexus 4 which the issue didn't appear with.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

First Welcome to the forums :)

You can go into Settings > Accounts > Google > Once you click on Google you can un-check everything you don't want to sync with your device, you could do this with all your accounts besides Exchange.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply!

I have only enabled sync for contacts, calender & email though exchange, gmail only syncs app-data.

I have just unchecked "keep my device backed up" and have re synced contacts to see if that's the cause. I will let you know if the duplicates start again!

Cheers
Jason

You can go into "People" app and uncheck the other accounts - that will make sure that only the contacts from the account you want, show in the People app.

I've already done this, I only show exchange contacts.

Whats actually happening is all of my contacts are on exchange, they are duplicating as exchange contacts on the phone, then from there outlook decides that I've added a new contact and syncs the duplicate! Strange one.

Thanks for the help!

Jason
