Help Contacts fail to export

I attempted to export my contacts directly to a new SD card, but I am prompted with an incomplete list of contacts to choose from. I have over 700 to export, but less than 200 are presented as available for export. It does not seem to matter if I use a third party app or the default contacts app. Is there a way to force all of the contacts to export without manually selecting and sharing each one?

Is it offering only to export certain categories of contact (e.g. phone only, Google, SIM...)? I've met some contacts apps (mainly older) that did that, and where you had to export each category separately.

The norm though is to export all - I can't tell you how to force it to because you shouldn't need to. So if it's only offering a selection, the question is what is different about those it does/doesn't offer? Different types of contact (above) is the only guess I could come up with.
