Contacts Integration and Management

Many contact records on my phone get compiled from linked accounts in FaceBook, LinkedIn, Outlook, etc. Which is great, but the trouble is, I can't add to them if (e.g.) someone gives me their cell phone number and it's not in one of the linked sources. NOTE I am not expecting to be able to edit information that comes from a linked source - I appreciate why that is forbidden, as it would mean I'd be editing (e.g.) their FaceBook personal details.

All I want is to be able to add information to contact records on my phone, but can't do this for most of them.

Thanks.

Hi,

I had this problem too. I think that you need to create a local or google contact for the person you want to update and then merge the imported contact with the one you just created.

Eric.

Thanks for the advice, Eric, but given I have hundreds of contacts, I'd be doing that for about the next two weeks. There *should* be functionality that allows the inbound, linked contact details to populate un-editable parts of a local contact record, to which I can add editable fields. That strikes me as a no brainer, architecturally speaking. Anyone know if this can be done.

Also, something odd is going on with contact name resolution. For example, when I create a new text message and start typing the name of the recipient, it takes *ages* for it to think about it and come up with the name. I've concluded it is probably related to the linkage problem I have described above, where it going out to the cloud and searching linked accounts for a name...?

Really sucky architecture, android people. Seriously.

Hi,

Given that I would expect that this is not a Note 4 or even Samsung specific problem, there may be some mileage in trying a more generic forum, perhaps this one. Then your question will be seen by more of an audience.

Although I agree that this is clearly something that should be handled more automagically, surely the extra step of linking a contact will not be that time intensive. That said, I hope you find what you seek. Please let me know if you get a solution.

Regards,
Eric.
