Help contacts issue

I did a reset on my (Tracfone) Huawei Glory. Before doing so I backed up everything (contacts, call log, etc) on my SD card. Now that the phone is working properly again, I can't import my info back from the sd card to the phone.

The back up was saved as a Zip file which opens to show .db files. When trying to import from storage, my phone says "No vCard found on SD card" .

I'm not sure what to do. Can anyone offer any assistance?

As you've discovered, the import feature of the contacts app reads vcard files. It also writes vcard files if you tell it to export. Hence if you'd used that to back up your contacts you could use it to read them back. But there's no reason why it should be able to read a backup made using a different app.

So how did you make the backup? You need to use the same app or procedure to restore the backup that you used to make it in the first place.

OK, in which case I guess I'd look in whichever phone menu has the "factory reset" option (the "Backup and reset" menu on my phone just has the option to back up data to Google, rather than a backup to SD, but your sounds like it is different). I'm assuming that you did this through the system Settings rather than from recovery mode?

Yes, through the system settings. Settings/backup and reset.
If I have sync turned off when doing a reset I'm asked to backup data to my sd card.

Did you have the "automatic restore" button ticked? I've not met this behaviour, though a web search did turn up another thread about this (also a Huawei phone, nobody who replied had met this before either!). So that's the best guess I have as to what would make it use the backup if there isn't a manual restore option, but I'm not completely optimistic.

It's possible that since they've been zipped the idea is that recovery could restore them. But since most people won't even know that there is a recovery mode, never mind how to use it, that would seem a very user-unfriendly way of doing things! The thing is that the sort of data you describe are stored in database files on the phone, but they are in an area which the user doesn't have write access to, so you can't just copy the backup files into place. So there has to be a system app that can restore this backup (unless they expect a lot of knowledge from the user!).

Automatic restore is ticked but shaded out because backup/sync to a gmail account is turned off.

Yeah, I searched for quite a while with no success before I asked here. It's frustrating because I can't remember all the contact info to manually input it.

It should be easier than this. Grr!
