Contacts not syncing into Handcent App

I've just downloaded the Handcent App so I could be able to select multiple contacts when sending an SMS, as the stock messaging services for my new Galaxy Nexus won't allow me to select contacts vs adding them with commas.

So, I've got the handcent app downloaded and my previous messages have copied over, but I don't see my contacts or a way to link them over to the new app.

I understand I need to set notifications and make HC the default SMS, but why am I not finding my contacts. I see them in previous calls in HC but no one else.

Suggestions at this point would be greatly appreciated.

Open Handcent and touch the compose icon in top left corner. Touch the "+" icon on the next screen on right. Your contacts will be listed and you put checks by the ones you want to send to then hit the back button and you see the numbers in the send to box.

Or you can just type the names in the send to box.
 
I've done what you said, but when I click the "+" icon, there are no contacts there to select and the main reason I got this app was because I was supposed to be able to select my contacts vs typing them out individually like the stock messaging that comes with the phone.

Nope, nothing still. I did check out that other thread and was unable to resolve this problem. I don't know how to clear my contacts and then sync them again either.

You find a solution?
 
I am at a loss here! I have been all over the net looking for a similar problem and can only find things about pictures not being displayed, or issues with Facebook contacts etc.

To not have any contacts in Handcent just does not happen very much and there is no documentation.

This leaves me with, "What would I do?" I would uninstall Handcent from the phone and then go back to the Market and re-download it onto the phone. Sounds dumb, but there could have been a glitch in the first download and install.

Dumb assumptions:
1. You have a contacts app and when you open it you see the pictures, names, phone numbers, email adds and any other info you have chosen to enter for the contact, like birthday, anniversary, address etc.

2. You sync those contacts with your carrier, Google, or a social network.

(I just had an update to this thread as I am typing, it says try GoSMS which I was going to get around to suggesting.)

Do that and let us know if you can get your contacts with that app.
The other thing I was going to suggest is to go to handcent.com and use their "Contact us" feature to tell them your problem.
 
Uninstalled and re installed Handcent.... the messages came back, all my app settings gone, and still no contacts. This is messed.

How do I sync my contacts from my google site on my computer, to my phone? I haven't been able to find that in my settings.

Will Go SMS allow me to select my contact with whom I want to send in group messages?

Your contacts are in GMail already? Go to Menu>Settings>Accounts and Sync>Your Gmail account>Contacts>put a check on that. And in Contacts>Menu>Settings/Display>Turn on Google.

As for selecting who you want to reply to in Group Messages, I haven't really received a Group SMS wherein I can see the other people the message was sent to. Never had it in any phone I've had or any app I've used (chomp, handcent, go, stock, Nokia, Sony, Samsung, or even my friend's iPhone this doesn't happen), so I guess its probably different in my country. I see the sender of the message.

If you have and app called My Accounts in your app drawer you can open it and touch the gmail address and there are options to check there to sync your contacts to the phone.

Otherwise, in settings Accounts and Sync touch the Gmail address and check it there.

No what I mean is, say I want to send a mass message to people, in my other phones, I have been able to select those contacts and send a message that way. Currently with the GN you have to type in every persons name or number in order to add them.

I have tried to sync in my Sync Settings under Accounts and Sync, but I keep getting this message "Sycn is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly" 2 days now I've had this message at work.

With your suggestions and accessing these sync settings. is this only on my phone or also on my computer account?
 
Ready to chuck my phone right out the door! So I got my Hotmail set up and never meant to sync those contacts... But that happened and not even all of them. I lost my other contacts... and Google still won't sync!
 
Ok!!!! I got it! Don't know how or what I did. But I think this is what happened. I am a hotmail user, but because I've been using Google Chrome, I've also set up a Google account. I was able to set up the account using my hotmail address, but up until now, didn't realize that I also had a "gmail address". SO! I updated my account sign in with the gmail account, it synced up fine, and now when I create a message, and select the "+" in the "To" all my contacts come up!!! Yah!!!

I was going to lose it!!! But happy it got sorted. Now I just need to re upload all the pics I had for the contacts. Is there a way to sync up fb photos with accounts without syncing facebook contacts?

From what I understand, you are trying to send a message to someone who is already part of a group? If that's so, press the (+) button in the add contact field in GO SMS, then the Groups Tab, then press the arrow to show everyone in that group and choose from there.

If you were referring to the situation where you send a group message, then want to reply to a specific person, what I did was modify the GO SMS settings. Go to Settings>Send Settings>activate Send as Split Messages. With this activated, when you send a group message, each person you send to will have a separate thread, and when that person replies, it will go into a thread exclusive for that person.

No you can't. Or you can arrange the contacts from Google Contacts on your PC browser and it will let you add pictures manually from their facebook accounts.
 
But here's a new twist to this problem ...My contacts (synced with Outlook) now sit in DejaOffice on my Galaxy phone - and Handcent can only identify one of their phone numbers, in an unpredicatble way. It fails to pick only their mobile [cellphone] numbers, which of course is what youneed for SMS. Has anyone encoutnered this challenge before, please?
