Help contacts - saving as phone v. google, etc.

how do you prefer to save your contacts?

here is my issue. my contacts synced with facebook; however, most of those people don't have a number in my phone/on facebook, so i don't particularly care to see them on my people contact list. i want to be able to just see the people i have purposely added into my list that have numbers. i've seen people talking about export to sd card/import but save to google, etc. etc. but i don't really know how to see just the people i want with numbers. can someone please help me?

I have all my contacts saved in Gmail. However the people that I call the most are categorized as "My Contacts". The rest are just "Other Contacts". The categories are set through the Gmail web page, not the app. When I sync the phone those groups are maintained and when I go to the People app, Menu>View I only have Google>My Contacts checked. Those are the only contacts that'll show up in the People app. I can find the other contacts through the Dialer. Also, in the People app there's the option to only display contacts with phone numbers.

If you want want to remove your Facebook friends from your contacts, go to Settings>Accounts & Sync>Facebook and uncheck sync contacts. If that doesn't remove them, remove the Facebook account, make sure the contacts are gone from the People app, then log into the Facebook app. It'll ask if you want to sync your Facebook friends with your contacts. Choose "Do not sync with contacts".

how do you prefer to save your contacts? is there a benefit of one v the other?

Well, it looks like you change your question while I was responding to your original question. The benefit of saving your contacts as Google contacts is that those get sync'd to Gmail. So if you ever need to reset your phone or flash a new ROM, there is always that backup that automatically gets restored. If you store them as phone contacts, those get saved on the phone and they'll get wiped out if you reset or flash a new ROM. You can save a backup of your phone contacts to your sd card that you can restore from, but you need to remember to do that before you wipe the phone. Google contacts automatically sync to Gmail.

Also, I believe with the phone contact, there are fewer data fields available than Google contacts. Not exactly sure which fields are missing, but it does warn you when you choose to save a contact as a phone contact.
