Contacts showing but not in SMS

Hello, I just switched from a Galaxy SIII to the Note 2 and I am having an issue with my contacts.

All of my contacts are synced to my Microsoft Exchange and easily showed up when I synced that account on the note.

Today when I went to SMS a contact, and I searched for her name in the SMS app, nothing came up.

I switched back to contacts and she was there with all the correct info. I was able to left swipe and message her but she will still not show up if I type her name in the SMS app.

I am using all native apps, no third party.

Any thoughts?

I'm using Handcent & ran into this the other day with an individual contact. I don't know if the stock app is reading the same contacts as Handcent but the problem was that the contact wasn't saved as a "Google" contact, just a phone contact. Try syncing your contacts with your Gmail account & see if that helps.
