Contacts Sync Gmail

i Have Samsung GAlAXY S2.

i Want to sync all my contacts wIth GMAil, but there is a problem.

In Gmail i have around thousands of useless contacts {remember, Gmail saves all the contacts u email to}.
& few of contacts in fone also has other useless info which i dont want to include.
So i dont want to include all these contacts, just the phone contacts there & in my phone thats it.

But whenever i sync it mixes all the info & gives me about thousand contact in my phone, whereas i just have around 200 contacts in my phone.

So what should i do please help someone can ??

& pls can someone tell me
How does Android-GooGlE Contact sync works ?
Does it delete contact from both if i delete it from anyone ?

Its a two way sync. If you delete/modify/add a contact in your phone, it will do the same in gmail (and vice versa). And depending on your network data speed, it should do it pretty quickly.

Your best option is to take a few hours and clean everything up. First, you need to turn off the option (in gmail) that tells google to add contacts automatically. In gmail, go to the settings page and turn off the option that says 'create contacts...'. Its under the general tab.

Now you can delete whatever contacts you do not want from your gmail and phone.

OPTIONAL:
If you still have contacts all over the place, the next EASIEST thing to do is to invest in an app that will backup your contacts. Do that because you do not want to accidentally lose anything. You should also see if you can export your contacts to a CSV file because once you delete all your contacts and you have nothing, import that CSV file to gmail and that will automatically put your contacts on the phone. I find that to be the longer way but its much easier and you know that everything is sync'd and getting backed up properly.

I haven't used this app but according to the details, it should work as I explained above:

Actually, all you need to do is put your 200 contacts in a group, which you can label "phone contacts". Then on your phone, go to contacts>menu button>more>display options>under google, check only the group "phone contacts" or any other group you want to display as well. Only checked groups will be displayed. So even if Gmail would add another contact since you emailed it, you won't see it on your phone.

you can do that but personally, I dont like all the other crap contacts in there. I'm a little more obsessive with the minor details.

Hey can u pls tell me whats the differnce between
MERGE WITH GOOGLE & SYNC CONTACTS ??

whats the difference between the 2 selected

You can select which Gmail contacts should visible on your phone book. To do that go to "Phone-book>setting>filter>Google" in there unchecked unwanted contacts?

You can tell your phone to only show contacts with phone numbers.

That will avoid showing up 10000 useless contacts that you've exchanged some e-mail.

Gmail syncs, Phone does not.

You misunderstood nyydynasty. The method I mentioned about grouping and unchecking works. When you open contacts, you won't see the other contacts you don't want on your phone since those will be set as invisible. However, they will still be downloaded to your phone, which is what he doesn't like (maybe space issue).

If you insist on using the same Gmail, you either have to clean it out and set it to "add contacts yourself" in the settings instead of auto-adding contacts or do the hide trick.

I still think he hasn't found the "only show contacts with phone number" checkbox...

Merge with Google simply means that you will put two contacts, lets say a Facebook contact and a Google contact of the same person, together. They appear twice in your phone book if they aren't merged.

if you merge two contacts together, you might get duplicate data in each contact, if you're not careful.

EXAMPLE:
Contact #1 (in your phone) has the phone number 123-456-7890
Contact #1 (in gmail) has the same phone number 123-456-7890

If you merge them together, you should get:
Contact #1 (in both your phone AND gmail) with two numbers -
Phone#1 123-456-7890
Phone#2 123-456-7890

So merging contacts wont solve your problem.

In my opinion, If you dont want crap contacts in your list (even if they're hidden, because that bothers me too lol) the only sure way to get what contacts you want to sync ... just export your contacts to a CSV file, delete everything and import that CSV file to your gmail contacts. Then clean up the rest right from the website. It'll take you probably an hour or so but I find that to be the easiest way, although a pain in the ass.

Hey no buddy.
i Found that thing.
i Finally managed to sort things out.
All those other useless info have been moved to another group in Gmail Contacts.
& usefull phone contacts to another group.

& in fone i sellecT that group & all other groups are unchekcd.

But coudnt understand many accounts present there.
& MERGE WITH GOOGLE & SYNC CONTACTS
i could uncheck them too, but just for information.

Waht if i check all of em to display in contacts ? {the ones shown in the image}

Hi, i am not sure this is the same thing, but this thread is the closest to it.

i have gmail contacts that when sync'ed are merged. I do not want them to be merged.

eg. 1000 contacts in gmail all in the main group.
On the phone i have 800.
I want 1000 on the phone, not 800.

When looking at the detail, the merged contacts has all that data together. These are not identical contacts and i want to keep them separate.

Help and thanks.

I sync my PC contacts to my android using MyPhoneExplorer.
I have unticked the option to Sync gmail contacts.
Works for me.
