Help Contacts sync with Gmail account doesn't work

Don Lemur

Lurker
Hi!
My automatic contacts sync in my phone (Android 4.0.4.) with my Gmail account is on. According to the phone the sync is always successful. But there are no contacts listed in my Gmail contacts from my phone.

I need to mention, that I log in into google with a ...(at)yandex.ru email. Maybe here is the issue, but I do not see why.
Need a solution!

Thanks!
Michael

Hi

As far as I know you can have an alternative email address associated with your gmail account, but only for gmail/email. You must have an existing gmail address (fromwhen you signed up with google) which is your "proper" google account ID. You should login with this.

Hi Roger,
Thanks for the advice, but it didn't solve the problem.
The phone shows that the sync was successful but there are no contacts in this Gmail account.

For contacts to show up in your Gmail they must be saved to that Gmail account. Is it possible you have been saving them to phone storage only and not to your Gmail account?
I am having the same problem.. I transfer ed all 700 contacts from my old iphone 5 to my new samsung s5, but they all saveed to device, now i have 843 contacts because additional contacts (some I don't really want) merged from my outlook and gmail contacts, and now I have many duplicates, some that are linked various times to waze app...How can I get them all into my gmail so that I can edit and have one complete list.
Thanks

In the Contacts app, export contact list(s) not already in your Google (aka Gmail) contacts that you want to combine into a single master contact database as a .vcf file(s). Import that file into Gmail, with a computer is easiest. Then click on: More > Find & merge duplicates to clean things up. Export the cleaned master list as .vcf file and keep for backup.

Resync your contacts to the phone. Then in the contacts app go to: Settings > Contacts to display and select your Gmail account. You should see only the contacts in the cleaned up list you created. You can delete other contacts on the phone if you want to keep them from showing up in searches.

Hi, thanks for your help. My first big problem is when I export my contact from phone setting (import/export) to SD card, it creates .vcf file with only contacts from A-C and not even all of them, I have blue, yellow, red and green contacts (so I don't even know what list is what because it's all confused). How can I export all the contacts? thanks

I guess you need to export a .vcf for each color or A-C then D-G or something. I don't know what's going on with your contacts app. Sounds kinda strange. It would help to know what phone you have, the Android version and what contacts app you're using.

Hi, thanks for your help, I have samsung s5, model samsung-sm-g900A, android version: 4.4.2, and the contact app is the the one that comes with the phone. There doesn't seem to be a way to choose what to export and even in the A-C, not all export. I checked if I could export groups, but there is no option for this.
It's very frustrating.
Thanks

Arrrrgh!!! Friggin' Samsung! Sorry I can't help more with exporting. I don't have a Samsung to fool around with and sort this out. All I can suggest is check the user manual or try some Google searches.

Edit: Have you tried Samsung's Kies thingy? I've never used it but maybe it can help.

Have you tried sharing them to gmail like in email format? When you export are you choosing phone and google?
