Help Contacts Transfer - HTC Desire to Razr Help

Dalmation

Lurker
Hey Guys,

I have both phones next to me, I saved my contacts to the SD card vfile I believe, and then I stick it in the razr and try to import it and nothing happens.

HTC had a nice bluetooth contacts thing, is there something like that i'm missing on the razr or what are the steps?

I apologize if this is somewhere else and I couldnt find it.

Thanks!

I guess it's safe to assume that you did not use Gmail as your primary email on the Desire?

One way to do this third party would be to go into the Android Market and install an app on the Desire that allows you to backup your contacts to your SD card. Once backed up, go to the Razr, install the same app, and use it to restore your contacts from the same SD card.

I think the easiest thing to do would be to back up your contacts with gmail. Go to your settings on your desire, accounts, choose your gmail account and sync contacts. When you log in to gmail on your razr, they should sync.

I don't know if you figure this out or not yet.

Martimus got it right about syncing them as gmail contacts. PJ got the method absolutly wrong.

If you have already export the contacts to a vcard on the SD what you want to do (as counterintuitive as it seems) is import them again (still on the desire) ... but this time import them as gmail contacts instead of phone contacts. Then on the desire under setting-accounts and sync, make sure you have sync contacts set for gmail account and hit sync now. This will put your contacts into you gmail contacts in the cloud. Now on the razr go to contacts-menu-accounts and then click you gmail account and make sure the Sync Contacts box is checked. That's it. Your Razr should now download your contacts from gmail. I also highly recommend in the contacts setting you change the Contact storage from backup assistant to google so that your new contacts get back up in the google cloud as well, this will make any other phone transitions in the future easier as any contacts you add will also be waiting in the cloud for download on a new device.

Comming from an htc incredible to my new razr i uses the vcard file from my htc to update to my razr, just took out the old sd card and placed it in my new razr, then go to contacts>Menu> manage contacts> import from sd card and choose which vcard file you want to import. It takes a minute for the phone to find the vcard file so be patient.
