Help contacts won't load after 4.1.2 update

My contacts will not load after I accepted the 4.1.2 update. I'm not rooted. I do use nova launcher prime. I have not noticed any other issues so far besides "updating contacts list" showing on my contacts screen all afternoon. I've tried powering off three times and pulled the battery once. So far nothing has worked. Can anyone help me?

Where are the contacts? Online? If so, clear data on "contacts storage" however, I always recommend a full factory reset after an update

Thanks for the help. That worked. I had force closed contacts and contacts storage but was leery of clearing data. Contacts work fine now.

This is not what you want to hear, but it is recommended with any major/minor OS update to do a factory reset to clear old files that are still left from the old OS. Like a clean install on a PC as opposed to a upgrade. I was having problems with mine till the Factory Reset.

My contacts worked fine. I haven't factory reseted it yet. I did restart the device just to be safe. My nova launcher actually ran smoother perhaps due to the updated firmware. Plus my task manager hardly takes up memory except running background apps. I'll be checking it often.
