Content Rating

I notice in Androids market, they list an app with Content Rating.

What does it means when it said Medium Maturity, Low Maturity?

Is it mature content like R, PG-13 in the movies?

Sort of. Its kinda like ratings for TV or Movies. Each app has a rating so you can filter what apps to show on your phone when you go into the market. In other words, apps that do not fall in the rating you set, will not show up in the market on your phone only. This is what the android market says "Set the content filtering level to restrict applications that can be downloaded." you can lern more when you select "Set level" and click on the link highlighted in blue.

Sounds like those ratings for PC or XBox games. I can understand the need and use of rating for games.

I've been looking at productivity software and tools like notepad, file manager etc and they come with ratings. This puzzled me as the in the PC world, there are no rating for software.

Most of the rating I've seen are low, the one I saw that has a medium rating is Real Player. I wonder why Real Player is rated medium, a media player shouldn't be but the content might be depending on what is watched.
