Help Control Dock Mode Clock? Better auto-bright?

I purchased the RND dock for my S4 which seems like it would make the S4 a good bedside clock.

However, the clock is a bit too bright. Is there a way to better control the brightness (have auto-bright selected now) for this mode?

Are there other options/apps that auto-launch when docked?

You could use Tasker.

Great as I think Tasker is (and it is), it's not that easy to use so this solution is probably more appropriate for someone fairly technically minded.

You can set the brightness, color, etc. You can also set this to come up automatically when you plug your phone into the charger.

It should be fairly simple to do using Tasker.

Create a profile and select type State -> Hardware -> Docked
Press the back button on the top left of this screen (where is says State Edit Docked) once you are done and a list of tasks will pop up. select New Task, give it a name eg Dim Screen and select the tick.

Then on the task screen, select the + to add an action
Display -> Display Brightness, edit the level as appropriate (presumably very low if you want it on while you are asleep) then tap the back button at the top left (where it says Task Edit Dim Screen) and you will be back at the profile screen.

If you are using auto brightness you will need a task to turn it off before you dim the screen or it won't dim. Some state based profiles automatically return settings to their previous value when the state is no longer active. If your profile doesn't do this you will need to add an exit task to reverse the changes to the settings.

Tasker is very powerful and you can do all sorts of nifty things with it. It's well worth the money and worth getting to know how to use.

Cool! Do you know if the GPS precision is good enough to know if it's docked in my nightstand dock or in my home-office dock (100 feet away)? I suppose alternatively, I could tell it to dim when docked AND after a certain time.

Yes it easily would be. The GPS is pretty accurate.

However, relying on location requires having the GPS on a lot which will suck up a load of battery. It would be much better to rely either on which wifi network you are connected to or time of day.

There's also an app in the store called Screen Filter - it lets you adjust the screen brightness to your liking. Personally, I really like it. I have an NFC tag on my charger that activates the stock dock clock and the screen filter.
