Controlling contacts

I have way too many contacts. I didn't designate most of them as contacts. How can I control my contact list?

In settings, go to accounts and sync. Look to see what accounts your phone is using for contacts. If you use facebook on your phone then it may be using your friend list as contacts, also you gmail contact list or any other email contact list you may have set up.

Within this part of the menu you can turn on/off whether or not you want to use each contact list for your phone.

Also, in contacts you can choose to display 'only contacts with phone number'. That way if it's just some random email address you sent something to once it won't show up in your contacts list.
