Controlling which app can sync

Hi there,

I am facing a very simple issue I am strugling to solve yet.

In roaming the syncing is automatically disabled as soon as the phone enters the new network. This can be controlled in the official settings menu of the OS. But imagine I am abroad, sync disabled and now a very important email arrives which needs my attention. To download that email it is necessary to allow syncing. If I enable syncing in Android it means that right at that moment all applications which usually sync itselves in the home network start to sync imediately. This results in wasting of expensive roaming data allowance to something not important.

I would like to have an app in which I could control which app can sync. This app would behave as profile swithing widget so it would be able to set up which apps are allowed to sync and when data sync is allowed on the OS level still only the allowed apps will sync. In a home network I could disable the filter to allow all apps which are set up to sync will sync normally.

Does anybody has an idea how to achieve at least similar result?

My thoughts are to use a some kind of firewall e.g. iptables but then the "widget switching" feature is missing.

Thanks a lot for ideas

Thanks for ideas. Both of them look nice and I was not aware of but are not what I am looking for. To some extend Tasker would be able to do it but with extensive set up. It is somehow like having Porsche and using it for carrying of grocery from store back home.

Syncer is the exact thing I need BUT the problem is that it can control only accounts that the Android system is aware of. But imagine I have several applications that sync data but they do not have account created on an OS level, e.g. third party email, weather, shares widget, etc. These are apps I need to limit otherwise when I enable auto sync they all sync and consume the bandwidth.
