Convert me from Apple

Hi all,

New here and brand new to Android - I don't even own one yet! Looking for help getting reasons I should switch from Apple.

Thanks!

Hello and welcome to the forums! :D

The biggest reason for me is the open sourced nature of the platform. This allows developers to contribute to android in their free time and they make it a hobby. This allows for all kinds of customizations and modifications that aren't possible with an apple device because its closed source. You may be familiar with jailbreaking on an idevice. This allows apple users to gain some of the customization that non-rooted android users have, but android users have rooting available. This takes it to a completely new level.

The google play store (android market) is open to any developer to submit an app, and its not the closed wall approach that apple has. If you have an app that competes with a google app? thats fine! The users get to choose. If you tried that in the istore your app would be denied.

Basically, I like android because google lets us make our own descisions. Apple makes those decisions for you.:)

Awesome!! Thank you!
Another question: What about the OS? How customizable is that? My fiance has a Nexus 7 and I'm not a huge fan of the dark design.

Welcome to the forums Allison and enjoy your experience with us! You're doing the right thing by asking lots of questions :D

Apple and Android are both great platforms: they just do many of the same things differently.

Many advantages of Android have been listed: the openness, the ease of customizing - or even REPLACING - the OS; but there are other advantages too. Widgets, actions from the notification panel, and almost real-time information using Jelly Bean's Google Now.

We're proud of Android's development over the last 3 years... but we try not to be arrogant about it. Well, not much

Enjoy exploring Android and whatever your decision, you're welcome here any time!
