Converting from iPhone to Android, use Outlook, having problems

I currently have an iphone and use outlook for my business. I have had them set up to sync (not wirelessly, I tether while at my desk) my contacts and calendar. These are vital to me as I am in real estate so I am all over the place with appts and meetings.

A few months ago my outlook and iphone stopped syncing and I have not been able to fix this. I have been adding new contacts and appts to my iphone vs outlook during this time. So my iphone has my current set of info.

I am making the switch to an Android phone. I am trying to find my best route to:
1) Move all calendar entries and all contacts from my iphone to my android phone
2) Then set up my android to sync with my outlook.

I am guessing there is not a seemless was to do this?

Welcome to Android Forums. If you tell us what phone you are using we will move your question to the forum dedicated to that phone.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I am undecided between the Galaxy s4 and the HTC One, but for the sake of this post, lets say I am leaning towards the HTC One. :) (Unless someone wants to convince me otherwise....I am change adverse and struggling to decide). :)

Depends on how your Outlook is set up and what you wanted syncing and how you wanna sync. Do you want to go via USB cable route? Do you want it done wirelessly?

There are brand specific programs to sync to Outlook like Samsung Kies, HTC Sync, and Sony PC Companion. Then there are third party programs that work for all brands like MyPhoneExplorer.

Personally I go cloud route and sync my Outlook to Google, which then syncs to my phone.

PS: Samsung has a feature that allows it to restore the data from an iTunes backup of your iPhone into a Galaxy device.

I'd vote for the HTC One, however when I had an HTC I had an issue that more recent versions of HTC Sync stopped working with older versions of Outlook (I am running a very old one at home: 2002 or 2005 - I forget exactly which) and to complicate the issue, older versions of HTC Sync didn't work with 64bit Windows.

If you're running an older version of Outlook, you might want to check what's supported.

There are however, 3rd party sync apps. I use a free one called AndroidSync which actually works over WiFi. It's not as good as HTC Sync (when it's working) but it does the job.

Thanks for the reply, very helpful. It sounds like there are several options for syncing the Android to outlook. My biggest obstacle may be getting calendar from iPhone to new phone. The contacts sync with my gmail fine to they can just go right into my android. But I have always had problems getting the iTunes backup to work, so right now my calendar only live on my iPhone.

Could I go the iCloud route, back everything up there, then when I get my new android phone, deposit the iCloud info in my new phone (an app maybe)? Then set everything up to sync with outlook?

Am I making this harder than it needs to be?

... and I have Google calendar sync running on my Windows workstation syncing my Outlook calendar(s) to Google. They are then reflected on all my Android phones. You can sync in both directions.

This is great for some of my friends who do scheduling in the office and have a truck out for the work. The calendar is just updated and reflected on both devices.

Thanks again for the wisdom. I went to sync my calendar to google calendar but kept hitting a snag because (and I hope I explain this right).....I have a gmail account I do not often use, then my work account myname@agency.re type address for work. My calendar selected, aka the one all of my calendar entries appear to be associated with, were my .re account vs my gmail account. I kept trying to sync it with google calendar but it wouldn't work. Maybe something I was doing wrong? I went ahead and set up an icloud and successfully dumped contacts and calendar from my phone into the icloud.

So based on that....once I jump to my new phone this weekend, I can download an app that will enable me to then move my contacts and calendar to my android phone from icloud, correct? (Sorry, I am about as tech stupid as they come and live in fear of losing my info)....

Once they are all safely in my Android phone....then I can decide my best bet for syncing my Android phone to my work Outlook, correct?

Thanks again for your patience in babystepping me through this.

When syncing an Android phone to outlook....what are the options to set it up wirelessly? Does the wireless sync work if the computer isn't on? (Are there awards for stupidest questions? :))

If you want it done wirelessly, sync from Google directly to Outlook. No need for any interaction between the phone and Outlook. That's how I do it. Basically, I made Google my master copy. Changes I make to my phone is synced to Google, then Google sends it to Outlook. The reverse would also work. There are many methods to sync Google to Outlook. I just use Go Contact Sync Mod and Google Calendar Sync programs on my PC.

I just use Go Contact Sync Mod and Google Calendar Sync programs on my PC.

I have used Google Calendar Sync for years and once a week I would export my Outlook contacts to Google manually. I did not know about Go Contact Sync.

I have added Go Contact Sync and it is great. I can now sync contacts in both directions (my old manual approach was Outlook to Google only).

Thanks for the information.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S4, Outlook 2007 on my PC, and a little icon on my PC called "Google Calendar Sync" -- if I add an event in Outlook, or on Google calendar, or on my Galaxy, it syncs to the other two. Knock wood... it's never let me down and is nearly instantaneous. On my Galaxy, I simply use the native calendar titled "S Planner", which is great. No other app needed for calendar syncing.

Hope that helps.
