Root Converting to Wi-Fi only device

I got my tax return today, and went out and picked up a G3. I plan on making my Volt into a mini tablet for the kids, so now things like 4G function and qremote are no longer an issue. Just need Wi-Fi, and basic function, so which is the best ROM at this point? I hadn't been paying much attention to the different threads since I was just running on modified stock.

Also, if someone wants to take over the all things root guide I'll get Mikestony to transfer ownership, just say something.

Games and YouTube are all they'll be doing with it. Probably won't even use the camera, although I never had the green tint issue. I thought most of the major functionality bugs were squashed...What's still up with them?

Yeah, but that would be easy. :p
Also, one of the custom ROMs will run leaner than the stock LG crud.
They'll be using it for games so I want to get as much oomph out of it as possible.

I installed Ehndroix V ROM. It's running well and I think it's a winner.

I haven't tried that yet but Gummy ROM has been working pretty well for my Wi-Fi only Volt.

SlimKat @ 176 mb, about the leanest of them all. Pretty solid running ROM. Closet so far to being Vanilla like. Just add media player, Viper4Android or similar, and OGmods YouTube (to download in mp3 or any video quality). You can use the Xposed module for YouTube sign-in fix. Strip out all unnecessary things, disable (activities, services, etc.) others with My Android Tools, throw in Adaway, and you should have a stable mini tablet perfect the kids.

I play the StarWars Battlefront game & the new Michone The Walking Dead apk. On my Volt with ease all the time & they look awesome with zero lag!

I might look into slimKat. I've got the Ehndroix ROM trimmed down pretty small. Might be close to being just as small at this point. Froze phone and contacts, and removed most other non essential apks.

Still working on getting my G3 rooted. The one click root doesn't work, even king root failed. Just found another option that is supposed to work for my model/software version, but haven't been home to try it.

@bg4m3r what variant of the G3 do you have? I don't mind helping you out.
Boost Ls990, zvc software version. I found a one click root that says it's specifically for this one, but I'm out of town so I haven't had a chance to test it. The other one click roots I've tried run successfully, but then there's nothing there on reboot.

https://m.reddit.com/r/LGG3/comments/43zzwh/rooting_the_lg_g3_sprint_ls990_with_zvc_problems/ fully read first before trying.

And (did) you read AutoPrime's detailed method http://forum.xda-developers.com/spr...990-zvb-root-method-zvb-rooted-stock-t3211878 (title on the page includes ZVC).

Also http://highonandroid.com/android-smartphones/how-to-root-lg-g-flex-2-g2-g3-on-lollipop/ has root from Unjustified Dev (didn't link thru to get home page)

Seems all methods are similar. I did read through the links I provided. The XDA link has interesting tidbits scattered through the thread, also something about a change in line (~)27 of the script. You might be able to "Pull the rabbit out of the hat!".
Maybe I'll get a G2 instead....I was looking @ G3, specs are really close.

Huh, Go figure I bought a G3 too! I got the Unlocked T-mobile variant tho. No clue what to even use the Volt for tho, I may just stash it somewhere as a backup device.

I mounted my spare Volt to my car's dash and used it as a GPS/Spotify streamer and tethered it to my VM Volt that I use for service. Just my $0.02 :P

so what was your best result for a wifi only device?
Been running into some problems with the ROM I installed. May end up going back to stock, but going to try a couple of the other 4.4.4 ROMs first. Been busy working on my computer since I got back into town last week.

Switched over to the remixed slimkat ROM. It's running well. Still has some funk with charging from off state killing the touchscreen, but the buttons still respond so it can be rebooted at least.
