CoPilot Live Premium released

Argh! took CP Premium for a drive - the voice turn instructions didn't work (no sound - and yes, I checked the sound & volume settings), then the app froze up requiring a 'force close'. When I restarted it, there was still no sound, and after a couple of minutes, my phone rebooted... coincidence? I think not - I can't remember the last time that happened. Definitely going back to v.8 until v9 is usable.

I would suggest people take a look at the problem reports building for CoPilot Premium. They can be found on this link....

Common problems

It would also be worth looking at "questions" too, as some of those seem more like problems....

Frequently asked questions

There are a few ways to cut and dice the data, so have a rummage.

I've never before had the misfortune to use such buggy software, even free stuff developed by enthusiasts. Thank heaven I only paid

I've seen this feature mentioned on several 'feature lists' for Premium but for the life of me can't seem to figure out how this works.

Has anybody been able to 'drag' a route to change it?

When I try, I just scroll the screen.

Have you spotted the "Drag Route" button at the top right of the screen, displayed when you are viewing "My Route"? You need to press that first. When you do drag, the software does not have the sophistication of Google Maps to immediately snap the route to suitable roads. You basically just drag a point and the routing catches up once you let go. Unfortunately, with a great fat finger covering the screen it is not always easy to see quite where you've dragged to, so practice makes perfect.

Well, after reading this thread, I can't really see a compelling reason to 'downgrade' to V9. Except for the route-dragging feature, there are no real improvements that make it worthwhile.. Someone correct me if I'm wrong (since I don't actually have V9), but here is my assessment:

- Canada maps extra $$. With CP8, I have entire NA already. And I may actually go to Canada some day..;-)
- No Live Link; replaced with 'social media' integration. Sorry, but I really don't want to post my location on Facebook, thank you. Not that I used LL that often, but at least it was there.
- Missing routing options. Why? Yes, I understand it gives route alternatives, but seems that could get to be a PITA every time you want to just set your route and go with your default. Am I missing something?
- Still can't grab addresses from Android contacts? Something I used a lot on my WinMo version..
- No custom POIs', oh my.

I've been a CP user since V5. Seems every version change has lost some functionality in exchange for adding others. Most of the time I could live with that, but I just don't see the benefit this time, certainly not for the price they are wanting to charge. So, is there anything really big that makes the change worthwhile??

You assessment is (almost) right on the nose. If you have v8, don't even consider buying v9 at its current price. It's just baffling that anyone would integrate twitter and facebook into a GPS app, while at the same time removing core navigation features like routing preferences.

Copilot can grab addresses from contacts, but I find it sometimes (often?) can't translate them into something that matches what's in its maps. If there's no exact match for the city name and street name, you're out of luck.

I don't agree that v9 is not an improvement. Yes, it removed custom POI files but I don't believe that any significant segment of the user box use that feature anyway. The take rate on Google's MyMaps for example is single digit percentages, thought I use it extensively.

Other than that feature, it seems improved in every way, though it didn't solve preexisting shortcomings.

I used the CUSTOM POI's and ESPECIALLY THE POI ALERTS ALL THE TIME and that was the reason I bought copilot in the first place. Now they say they are working on adding the custom POI IMPORT BACK but no mention of the POI ALERTS which, AGAIN, is very important. I used it for red light cameras, tolls, rest stops etc.. it would alert me when they are coming up....

It managed to route me onto a non-existent junction on the M5 yesterday. Not very impressed.
Neither could it find a location that my wifes car satnav found just fine. Even less impressed.
And I've heard back from ALK about speed camera warnings only been shown on a planned route. They say it's not possible to have them working unless you're on a planned route. Which is, of course, bollocks. The system has me speed and local speed limits when unplanned so why can't it get speed cameras?

Well I had an opportunity to test this out last week and I must say that it was a life savior for us. Me and my wife took a vacation to a vacation from Chicago, IL to Mishicot, Wisconsin. I used Google maps to get us there with no problem. (The resort was in the middle of nowhere.) I totally had to rely on GPS to get around. When we went out later, Google maps wouldn't work for NAV, because of either no cell signal or only and edge signal. So, I opened CoPilot Live V9, I have V8 still to. It took some getting use to at first, but once I learned how it worked, I had no problem driving around on the country roads during the day or at night. Out of all the locations I needed to go to, only one was off by about two blocks. But everything else worked fine. Definitely a must have if you don’t carry around maps or have an updated GPS.

Here are the things I would like to see:

1) Announce street names, exits, etc. with voice directions. (Without having to purchase additional voice.)
2) Being able to search places by name, address, etc. just using the search button on phone, to find in the area.
3) Can’t pull up contacts to navigate too with in Copilot.
