Help Copy and paste text?

How the heck do I copy and paste text from an email? I cannot get it to work. The manual says to hold your finger on the text to copy, but nothing happens when I do. Does copying text work across apps? If I copy from an email, can I paste it into Facebook, for instance?

I know on GB in Gmail if you hold you will get 2 re-sizable arrows then you jus drag them. not sure in froyo tho

in gmail...

menu button -> more -> select text

drag finger over text to select and it automatically copies it

^^ good to know. I've been hitting reply and copying it with the tap-and-hold method. And yes, it works across apps, I can copy gmail and paste into Handcent, for example.
