Copy, Paste, and EDIT Phone numbers

Newbie
I'm using Android 2.3.3.

I have a situation that comes up all the time. I get a call that goes to voicemail. The person says, "give me a call back at"... and it's a slightly different number than the one that called me, usually the outgoing line is different than the incoming extension they're calling from. So, I want to be able to paste this into the dialer, and EDIT it before it calls. I don't know how to even get to the dialer window without first starting to dial a number manually. So, question #1, is it possible to copy, paste, and edit (or copy, edit, paste) a number into the dialer without resorting to another app like a dedicated phone app or a notepad app?

Question #2, has anyone else noticed that if a phone number has dashes between the parts (555-123-4567) it will paste to the dialer from say an email with a click. But a lot of folks use periods (555.123.4567) and that doesn't work! Or am I doing something wrong?

Greetings steve,

If your not using another app, where exactly are you trying to copy & paste from?

I haven't used the default contact app in a very long time, but I do use an contact app called Go Contacts. If I long press on a contact, it has an option to edit the phone number attached, before I make a call. Maybe an app like like this one or one like it, is what your looking for.

I'm not sure what to say about the other problem. I can click on a phone number link inside of a text message, and it will go to my dialer. It doesn't matter if it's with dashes or periods.

I haven't tried it from a email.

Edit:
Works from email as well.

Hope this helps.

Most of the times I want to edit the number is one that comes in on an email. If it has dashes, I can click on it and it goes to the dialer and dials ( I can also get a number from a website most times and it will work if it's dashes but not periods). But there is no where for me to intercept it to change the number without writing it down, going to the phone, and manually putting it in.
