Copy/Paste on Motorola Droid2???

JoAnR8

Lurker
I've finally figured out how to Copy/Paste on my (Motorola) Droid--but it seems to have severe restrictions.

1) Selecting text is easy...
2) To copy (or cut) text one must double-press (kinda like double-click but with the finger, leaving the finger down on the second press).
This brings up the list of selectable commands: Cut, Copy, Paste (if there is already something in the 'clipboard')
(In fact, you can copy a single word just by following step 2)

The problem with this action is that it only copies a single word (the one you double-pressed on) not a selected group of words separated by spaces.

Anyone know a way to copy a larger selection than a single word?

Thanks

Welcome to Android Forums.

What device are you using (my guess is that it isn't a Droid 2)? Go to ... Settings | About phone | Model number.

What version of the system are you using? Go to Settings | About phone | Android version.

What/where are you on your device when this behavior exists?

Model No: DROID2
System Version: 4.5.621.A955.Verizon.en.US
Android Version: 2.3.4
Baseband version: BP_C_01.09.15P
Build number: 4.5.1_57_DR4-51

I happen to usually be on QuickNotes but for the purposes of this thread I'm also doing it in the generic browser.

And...in the browser, it seems to work!

First I have to double press/wait on a text portion of the page; move the sliders; then double press again to get a Copy option.
[If I go to Menus, it says next to ...More/Select Text "Menu+e".

Q1) What does "Select Text Menu+e" mean?]

However, in Quick Notes I can still only copy one word (because, I suspect, even though I've selected a bunch of text, when I do the double press/wait maneuver the selection the program "sees" is only where my finger falls.

I'm surprised that the behavior isn't consistent over the platform (i.e., a system function rather than an app behavior).

Q2) Are there many apps that don't allow the expected Copy/Paste behavior?

Also I notice I cannot enlarge the web page (using the expected finger action) --it tries to go slightly larger and immediately returns to original size.

Q3) Is this to be expected or does it depend on the website (in this case www.slate.com)?
