Help Corrupt mmssms.db. Refuse to be defeated.

My HTC One X crashed the other night, and shortly afterwards I realised that all my SMS messages had disappeared. I guess that mmssms.db had become corrupt, but as my phone has a stock ROM, I haven't been able to do any digging.

I'm pretty devastated to have lost so many messages (yes, lesson learned about backing up), and I was ready to root my phone to check out the telephony folder and see if I could do anything. It seems, however, that I can't root my phone without wiping everything in the process :(

Is there any way that I can get into this folder? I've already done some serious research to no avail, but refuse to believe that it's completely impenetrable.

Andy.

ES File Explorer has an option to allow you to view the files on your system and data partitions. I'm not sure if you can do anything without root though (I can't test, all my devices are rooted).

From my experiences with losing messages before rooting, there isn't really much that can be done unfortunately :(

I had the issue where I would store too many messages on the phone and it would freeze the app until i deleted some of them, and I lost quite a few that way.

As EP said, try ES file explorer to see if you can get to the right place. It's possible it isn't in a root folder, in which case that should be able to help you out.
