Costco deal

Costco began offering the Spectrum last week. They have it now for $49.99. This will be very tempting when I can upgrade in a couple of weeks.

Just a heads up if you purchase online. I took advantage of the Costco online deal and I love the phone. ($53 total) But then my battery charges started lasting less and less time, down to 3 hours before having to charge--even at night when not in use. I had played around with my settings, tried a few different fixes but realized that the phone had a problem. (turned off wifi, 4g, updating, extended battery, etc.) Time to exchange with Costco online? Three weeks. Cannot return to store and get a new one. Glad I kept my DX as a back up. I LOVE the Spectrum, especially now since I've gone back to my DX. There was a way around the time frame--could have made it a week if I was willing to pay them $311 up front and they would credit me once they sent new phone. They asked if I wanted to buy a different phone. NO WAY. There is nothing better out right now and I don't see anything better coming out anytime soon.

Will probably root new phone when I get it.

Hope the new phone is ok. My Spectrum is not too good on battery, but then again no 4G phone is (with the exception of the Razr Maxx).

I rooted the Spectrum and have been getting from 12 to 18 hours of use per charge.
The battery took about 3 hours to fuly charge, but this was from been completely dead.

Honestly, I am probably going to return my Spectrum this week. I bought it through Amazon as an upgrade to my contract for $89. But, the Razr Maxx is now at $199 and that is the phone I had in my mind all along. I need that battery! Plus, I came, like you, from a DX and I love Motorola's industrial design and durability. My DX still performs like a king!

I am still tormented on what should I do....go for the Razr Maxx or keep my Spectrum...

Now that you're used to the True HD 720p screen of the Spectrum, you're going to hate the qHD PenTile screen of the RAZR MAXX.

And 12-18 hours is pretty good. Drop a custom ROM on your Spectrum (Broken Out and Eclipse are the only two right now) and you should have a better performing phone with better battery life. Once ICS comes out, you'll have an even better phone.

Stick with the Spectrum!

You took the words out of my mouth lite. I was thinking the same thing about the screen. It's gonna look all pixelated. You'll get used to it but to me the razr maxx is a downgrade. I would stick with the spectrum myself.

I checked out the Razr, love the battery life, but I still think Spectrum is superior. The screen alone is what originally sold me. The ability to see it outside is my number one reason to keep it. Thanks for the encouragement on rooting. The forum community makes it kinda foolproof.

:D Thanks for the advice! I will probably just stick to the Spectrum. I have to say, I was in bed last night watching YouTube videos in HD (for the first time since getting my Spectrum last Thursday) and I couldn't believe my eyes!!! I'm use to watching the videos on my DX, Kindle Fire, and Nook Color, but wow, the sharpness, contrast, details and the whole experience was truly amazing!

I am a little afraid of the back cover on my Spectrum and love the kevlar design on the Maxx, but, I think I can improve my Spectrum with a gel cover. I saw a gel cover with a carbon fiber desing that looked sharp.

I have broken out on my Spectrum, but I am getting frustrated with the screen responsiveness at times. I need to press again or press harder when on my Droid X it was usually instantly.

Can't wait for ICS on this phone. And, for $89 at Amazon, it was a great deal. I am debating if I should also spend another $110 just to get the Razr....

I also like the Spectrum community here! Thanks again guys!

should still be able to add insurance to it and the phone has a 1 year manufature warrenty.

Agreed. I had a Droid 4(which has the same type of display/screen and it was so freaking bad) for a week or so but returned it for the Spec and am way glad I did! Give it some time and I'm sure you will be satisfied. The Razrs/D4 have a non removable battery ie. your warranty is void is you do remove it yourself...WTF is that Motorola? The salesperson at VZW said it makes the phone more resistant to damage from water. Really? Then again...you are posting in a spectrum forum so opinions here will be biased lol. By the way damn u VZW for charging your customers so much more $ than other retailers. lol

I have a TPU skin on my Spectrum and it works wonderfully. It's very thin, yet tough, and offers excellent coverage. By tough, I mean it is very resistant to abrasion....

There is just enough of a rim around the screen to be able to place the phone face down on a flat surface without worrying about scratching. There is also a slight bump around the camera, protecting it from being placed lens down.

The case is lightweight, low profile, and tough. Not to mention inexpensive, too. A perfect combination for me. :-)

Thanks guys. I will look into the TPU skin and the extended battery. I might be asking for too much, but could some of you post pics of the covers and the extended batteries? I would like to have a good visual idea...

Thanks again!

You might want to make sure the Costco Spectrum is new. They are a grey-market seller, so it might be a refurb.

they had them for .01 on amazon and newegg a week after I bought mine. Stupid verizon tricked me with their buy one get one deal. I thought 100 dollars was a deal lol. then I get on these forums and find out everyone got a better deal than me. I never even thought ot check amazon and newegg even though I've bought tons of stuff from both those sources in the past.

I got one for my wife and myself from Amazon with the double data deal. I was a no brainer for $19.00 ea. and free shipping, not to mention free premium apps too!

LOL yeah that has to be painful. I actually looked, in the same day, and found it first for $100, then for $49, then went to the Verizon Wireless store and saw it for $299 (with a new contract, wtf!), went home, found it for $19. VZW store saleslady was a raging c*ntbag, so I was glad to stick it to the bitch. :D

Jai :D The double data was THE reason I went with VZW over ATT's LG Nitro (same phone, a different back cove).

if you look closely the nitro's corners are slightly more rounded. I was really thinking about buying a nitro case for my spectrum and while closely studying the pictures and dimensions of each phone I noticed that there are ever so slight differences.

Yeah, I noticed that too; another reason why I went with the Spec... I kind of despise overly rounded corners. I think they make products look el cheapo. ^_^

that's so funny you say that. I feel the same way. I don't like the rounded corner design either. As you typed that i was reading an sgIII review and looking at the images of it thinking to myself "man what an ugly phone! look at those hideous rounded corners"

Someone at samsung obviously likes it though :P

You didn't get the worst deal. I bought my Spectrum off ebay, so I KNOW I paid more than you. But I didn't have to go into a contract, which is worth the price differential to me.

And if you other guys like square corners, LG's upcoming phones should look good to you.

Annnnnnnnd that is one of the reasons I hate Samsung :P Seriously, every samsung product I've owned...has freakin broke due to defect.
