Costco upcoming sale on the S3

So I was talking with a Verizon rep that mans the cell booth at my local Costco. Their price for the 16GB S3 is $209.99 at the moment. I told him I was surprised because it's $199 at Verizon stores and online.
He said buying it from Costco I will get a $40 rebate and only be charged sales tax on the actual price that I pay ($209) not on the full price of the phone ($650?) that Verizon charges, at least here in CA.

He also said that the phone will be going on sale on Wednesday at Costco for what he thinks will be $179. He said that buying it now, I would get a "price guarantee" which means they would refund me the difference when it goes on sale. But he also said the $40 rebate will "go away" once the phone goes on sale. So to get both, the $40 rebate and the price guarantee, I would need to purchase the phone by this coming Tuesday.

Does this make sense? I may not have explained it very well. Is there a disadvantage that I am missing not to wait for the price drop?

I'm assuming that he knows. It sounds like, if you buy it on Tuesday, you'll get the $40 rebate. Then, you can get the difference between what you paid and the sale price refunded after the price is reduced on Wednesday.

Do you happen to know if the sale is only on the Verizon version? I wonder if the ATT version price will go down, as well.

It that sale happens, I'll be taking my new S3 back for a refund...:D The reason I bought my phone at Costco was their great return policy and paying sales tax only on their price, not Verizon's full retail....

Cheers,
Steve
