Could be a thread killed but not the activity process that started it?

Hello,

I have a doubt about "Threads" that are started from activities or android services.

I've developed a thread that is running in a infinite loop:

public run ()
{
while (true)
{
// do something and sleep for two seconds
doSomething();
Thread.sleep (2000);
}
}

Would it be possible that android kill this thread but not the activity (or service) process that started the thread?
